Sydney is anything but short of cafés and restaurants, but The Grounds of Alexandria is one step ahead of everyone. Classy, relaxed and chic at once, The Grounds is as unique as it gets, a place that will keep you coming back for more.
Café, restaurant, bakery, bar, patisserie, farm… The Grounds of Alexandria has it all. This massive space is the perfect excuse to chill out and to remember that life doesn’t have to be super fast, and that you can sit down and enjoy the best Australian produce in a green, calming and beautiful place.
The Grounds initially opened just as a café to then expand to today’s array of wonderful spaces. The Café at The Grounds benefits from an exciting partnership with Jack Hunna, coffee expert and world latte champion. His craft and care are evident in the choice of coffee available: every brew comes with a card explaining the beans’ provenance and what makes them so great.
The Cafe at The Grounds is a stunning space, dark enough for you not to wince during your first morning coffee, light enough for your eyes to sparkle once you see (and smell) the colourful pastries and cakes made at The Grounds and served at the bar. Not a sweet tooth? The bakery also makes fresh loaves of bread of all kinds, including the incredible charcoal loaf, a treat with The Grounds’ homemade raspberry jam.
The Potting Shed is the perfect meet-up space, complete with hanging plants, terracotta pots and timber beams meet brass, brick and iron, making you feel like you’re in your family’s garden.
The brainchild of Ramzey Choker, who grew up among parents who worked in the hospitality industry, The Grounds is a homage to the founder’s childhood with a fun, hip and current twist. Kids can even go and play with the animals in the farm, like the aptly named pig Kevin Bacon or the Naughty the goat (she’s really naughty by the way, apparently she just keeps trying to run away).
Stepping into The Grounds gives you that little tingle you feel when entering a space in which the creators have already thought of everything to give you a good time – even the Express-O Bus, a bus to get locals to The Grounds free of charge. What’s not to love? You walk in for the coffee, you walk out feeling lost in time and space somewhere too beautiful to leave.
The Grounds recently opened their By The Sea pop-up with an Arizona desert twist, serving passers-by serving salads, coffee, smoothies and cocktails on their way to Sculpture By The Sea on the Bondi To Tamarama walk.
