Out in Broadway Market: Okko’s stylish Japanese tapas and the last days of Netil 360

The last rays of the September sun were the best excuse to spend an evening in the vibrant Broadway Market, bustling with excitement for the occasion.Red-Stripe-headphones

I started the evening at the slick OKKO, where healthy Japanese classics meet comfort food and a stylish LA look. Their Philadelphia sushi rolls were the best I’ve ever had, especially while paired up with Japanese craft beer: the lovely Hitachino Nest White Ale is produced by the Kiuchi Brewery Naka, Japan.IMG_2055

It was established in 1823 by village headman Kiuchi Gihei as a sake and shochu producer, but began producing craft beer in 1996. Hitachino is brewed in the tradition of a Belgian style white beer with coriander, nutmeg, orange peel and orange juice and it’s so refreshing that it’ll match your sushi like nothing else.IMG_2054

For a main, I picked the incredibly tasty and perfectly filling Yakisoba noodles with fried tofu, peppers and bonito fish flakes. Although my limited chopstick skills meant I ate them like spaghetti, this is fine Asian food at its best. IMG_2056
To enjoy the lingering sun, I couldn’t help but climb the Netil House stairs to reach the Netil360 rooftop, which has been hosting a headphones ‘sculture’ made of Red Stripe cans since mid-July. And what better way to say goodbye to summer than a can of Red Stripe?11226938_10207924125371216_3473619108064404484_o
