Life in Park Slope, Brooklyn, NY

If Williamsburg is New York’s Shoreditch, Park Slope can be its Dalston.

Still not completely gentrified, Park Slope, Brooklyn, is still a mix between quirky cafés selling kale smoothies and buildings that are falling apart; between bearded and tattooed hipsters and dodgy-looking tramps; between sketchy youngsters and families.

Life here seems cosy, artsy and healthy. Cute and special cafés make iced drinks and old dishes with special twists. Galleries, street art and hip bars are taking over. Families and singles take their children and their dog for a jog as they work out during the weekend. Neighbourhood parties still happen.

A farmer’s market takes place every saturday on Grand Army Plaza, in front of an Arc de Triomphe inspired arch.

The whole area’s disposition, made of long and large avenues, is inspired by Paris’s boulevards, while the houses are the typical New York style you see in series like girls. However, gentrification is running fast: rent can reach up to $9000 per month per person.
